Introduction

Welcome to the Scholarship Grants Program of the NSW Branch, Australian College of Ambulance Professionals (ACAP). The NSW Branch is committed to providing all level of members with opportunities to further their professional development.

Additionally, ACAP recognises that it has a role in actively supporting specifically its members in activities that are available for their continuing education and attainment of professional education points.

Please read these instructions and the downloadable guidelines carefully. Complete the forms answering all the questions and do not forget to sign the forms. The grants are divided into set cash amounts. Successful recipients will not receive payment above the stated amount in the grant category. In the case of a research grant, a budget and an anticipated project completion time will need to be submitted.

Grants can be applied for at any time of the year and will be considered at the next scheduled Board meeting. Note: Grant applications for conference attendance must be submitted at least three weeks prior to conference scheduled date.

All members are encouraged to participate in this exciting scholarship grants program.

 
Available Grants
Grants will be available annually as follows:
 
Area Total Limit per application
Research $12500 Applications of varying amount can be assessed on merit.
Val McMahon Conference Grant $15000 Maximum $600 each application within Australia and amount at discretion of Board for O/S attendance. A written summary of the conference suitable for publication on the ACAP web page needs to be forwarded to the Scholarships Director (scholarships@nsw.acap.org.au) within one month of the conference totaling not less than 1000 words. This is to benefit members who were not able to attend the conference.
Dr Bob Wright Educational Advancement $7000 Maximum $600 each application. To assist with course fees for courses that charge admittance fees to the course. Course payment receipts must be forwarded before scholarships will be granted.
Special Projects $5000 Applications of varying amount can be assessed on merit.
Text Book Scholarships $3000 Limit $100 per application. Available to ACAP Full Members studying a particular course approved by the Board of ACAP or individual circumstances that would assist the member as agreed by the Board of ACAP NSW.

As ACAP is committed to providing opportunities for its members the above amounts will be budgeted over the financial year. If grants are not used in one category, money available may be moved from one grant category to another category to meet member needs.

Successful applicants will be paid by cheque.

Participation in the Scholarship Grants Program is conditional in you agree to abide by the terms and conditions that may be set out from time to time by the NSW Branch of the Australian College of Ambulance Professionals.

 
Student Grants

As the name suggests, ACAP is the national College representing student ambulance officers, paramedics and intensive care paramedics in all clinical, educational, operational and management environments.

ACAP (NSW) is the largest Branch of the College with over 1500 members. Our members are employed in university, private service providers and of course the Ambulance Service of New South Wales.

The scope, importance and recognition of prehospital care have grown significantly over the past decade, with many more exciting developments planned.

ACAP (NSW) recognises the importance of university education in prehospital care and fundamentally supports ongoing growth of university education as vital to the continued expansion and professional recognition of prehospital providers.

To support university students studying in the area of prehospital care ACAP (NSW) is pleased to announce the following scholarships that will be managed by Charles Sturt University.

  • 2 Equity Scholarships for first year mature age students. $500 each.
    The equity scholarship will be available to students classified as mature age students consistent with the CSU guidelines.
     

  • Associate Professor’s Address. $500.
    The Associate Professors address will be an annual event for the entire student body within the school undertaking the Bachelor of Clinical Practice. The funding will be utilised to assist in travel/accommodation or other incidentals of the guest speaker.
     

  • Welcoming function. $500.
    The function will be used to sign 1st year students into the College. A special three-year undergraduate membership category will be created for students.
     

  • Clinical placement scholarships for 2nd and 3rd year students. 5 X $200.
    The scholarships will be provided to assist third year students to undertake clinical placements that would otherwise disadvantage them eg. Clinical placements in remote locations. Selection will be based on grade point average throughout first and second years of the undergraduate course.
     

  • Graduate Certificate Scholarships. 10 X $100.
    To assist students undertaking a postgraduate certificate in an approved CSU course.
     

  • Research Degrees. $2000 Pre Hospital Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
    This will be run in conjunction with the Mitchell Foundation that is providing $4000 per year for two years. The selection process will follow the guidelines of the Mitchell Foundation.
     

  • Conversion Grants. 10 X $100
    These grants will be offered to officers of the ASNSW who are undertaking the conversion course to attend residential school in the third year – CLS 310. Recipients will be chosen on grade point average.
     

  • Specialist opportunities. $1000
    This money will be spent on events that benefit College members and the student body. As an example, the funds could assist in supporting a Visiting Professor in Pre Hospital Care.
