1.3.1 Advanced Fabrication Technologies

Tasks

• Investigate applications of ultra-short laser pulses for laser contact opening utilising the funded tuneable femto- to picosecond laser source at ANU, where the extremely high irradiance of femtosecond laser pulses enables multi-photon absorption in otherwise optically transparent media.

• Develop laser selective contact formation using localized laser doping, to demonstrate (i)high-efficiency solar cells using fewer high-temperature processing steps and (ii) lower degradation associated with high-temperature processing.

• Investigate the use of shadow masking techniques to pattern thin film materials and novel electrodes for high efficiency devices in a simpler and low-cost way.
